Prehospital Critical Care blog and podcast is brought to you by Matthew Childress and Benjamin Mckee.

Matt has been working as a paramedic for 13 years in Texas, teaches EMS at a college, has every alphabet card and is a certified instructor for all of them too. He’s the brains behind all this. Benjamin has been in EMS for six years and is the looks and some of the voice for this project.

We both feel that EMS is not quite where it could be in terms of professionalism, a medic’s ability to create a working diagnosis, how best to treat a patient once we have that working diagnosis, and our capability to provide optimal care for a patient during an interfacility transfer. Paramedics need to address these problems if we want to earn our place at the table with doctors and nurses. That is what this project is all about. Ambulances today have more ‘toys’ on them than a hospital did 100 years ago. With the right training we should be able to at least come up with a differential diagnosis and treatment plan as good as a doctor’s 100 years ago. We should also be able to care for a patent during an interfacility transport as well as a nurse today. But it all starts with training and information. It all starts with us, me and you wanting to learn. We hope this project will help address some of the gaps in EMS education and help raise the standard of care to what it is capable of being.

Any feedback is very much appreciated, if you have something you want to talk about, opinions, or have any questions feel free to either contact us via the blog or email us at bbmckee@gmail.com. Thanks and happy leaning.
